## A one-minute setup.

Before you start

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, at least 4 GB of RAM and an internet connection. Translation runs in the cloud; speech detection runs on your device. On Linux, a 64-bit desktop with snapd and PipeWire is enough. There is no macOS app.

- The Store build ships with everything it needs.
- Meeting needs a virtual cable; Video & Game doesn't.
- On a Mac there's only the browser extension today, no desktop app.

Basis
: The download page's system requirements.

Limit
: On very old Windows 10 builds the app falls back to a compatibility mode; update Windows, then restart Voxis.

## Store on Windows. Snap on Linux.

Install

On Windows, install from the Microsoft Store: one click, automatic updates, no API key needed. On Linux it takes two lines in a terminal: install, then connect the audio permission — without it the app opens but hears nothing. Download only from official sources.

- Store: updates itself.
- Snap: without audio-record connected, Voxis stays deaf; the app warns you.
- Installing changes nothing in your audio setup and adds no audio device.

✓ Check: Installed

Basis
: The download page and the Linux snap guide.

Limit
: The .exe sideload isn't public, so this guide doesn't cover it.

## Sign in. 15 free minutes.

Account and sign-in

When the app opens, the sign-in card appears: email and password, or Continue with Google. A new account gets 15 minutes of the real voice, once, and the counter only runs after you press Start. Signed in through the browser and the window didn't come back? Paste the code from the page into the app.

- You may be asked to confirm your email.
- One free account per device.
- Marketing consent: +5 min, once.
- When the taste ends: 10 min a day on the free voice, Video & Game only.

✓ Check: Signed in

Basis
: The app's sign-in card.

Limit
: The code path is for corporate networks; never paste a code from anywhere else.

## Play the video. Press Start.

First Video session

Scenario: Video & Game. Source: System audio. Language: the “I hear in” picker. Play the video and press Start; the first sentence arrives a few seconds later. You never pick the spoken language.

- The language you hear is picked from your computer's language; switch to any of the 79 if you like.
- Shortcuts: Ctrl+Alt+1 Video, Ctrl+Alt+2 Meeting, Ctrl+Alt+0 Stop.
- Don't restart while it says Connecting: the wait starts over.
- With Fast mode on, captions don't wait for the voice.

✓ Check: Saw my first translation

Basis
: The app's welcome tour and waiting lines.

Limit
: At busy hours, connecting can take up to half a minute.

## Can it hear? Check once.

Sound check

Settings › Audio › Sound check, or Sound check › Open in the left rail. Three independent probes: System audio, Output device, Microphone. Run it once after installing. One can stay silent while another works; if the meter doesn't move while sound is playing, the problem is capture, not translation.

- Opens only when no session is running.
- A tone you can hear says nothing about capture.

✓ Check: All three probes pass

Basis
: The app's Sound check dialog; the audio setup checklist.

Limit
: If the selected microphone can't be opened, the meter shows the default input.

## Headphones on. Original at 30%.

Headphones and original audio

Headphones are a must in Meeting and with an Input device source, so the translated voice never leaks back into the microphone or the input. In Video, the setting that matters is ducking: the Original audio (while speaking) slider sets how far the source drops while a sentence is spoken. 30% by default; 0 mutes it, 100 leaves it untouched. Ducking lowers the whole app, so its music drops too.

- The Profile (Settings › Translation) sets ducking too.
- Speakers cause echo in Meeting.

✓ Check: Headphones on

Basis
: The app's ⓘ texts (Original audio, Audio).

Limit
: Ducking can't spare the music; the whole app is lowered.

## No cable, no Meeting.

VB-CABLE for Meeting

Meeting mode sends your translated voice back into the call, and that needs a free virtual microphone called VB-CABLE. Without it, Meeting won't start. Download it from vb-audio.com, install it, restart Voxis: it detects the virtual microphone on its own. CABLE doesn't show up in Voxis's device lists, and that's normal.

- The app does NOT install the driver for you: it's on vb-audio.com.
- The cable is hidden in Voxis's lists — you pick it in the meeting app.
- No cable on Linux: the app creates its own virtual microphone.

✓ Check: Cable installed, Voxis restarted

Basis
: The app's "Virtual microphone required" card; the site's Meeting section.

Limit
: It doesn't fall back to listen-only; Start is blocked.

Source
: [vb-audio.com/Cable/](https://vb-audio.com/Cable/)

## Your mic. Your headphones.

The Voxis side

Scenario: Meeting. I hear in: your language. They hear in: theirs. Your voice: the microphone you actually speak into, not the cable. Output: your headphones. Listen to my translation: off; turn it on only with headphones. Names are optional.

- ⇄ swaps the languages and restarts the session.
- Names come through as written. Answer in two words ("Yes, alright"), not one.
- Meeting doesn't run on the free daily minutes; the taste and purchased minutes do.

✓ Check: Voxis side ready

Basis
: The app's ⓘ texts and the consent card.

Limit
: If Windows microphone privacy is off, Meeting runs LISTEN-ONLY (step 11).

Source
: in-app copy

## Mic: CABLE Output. Speaker: headphones.

The meeting-app side

One rule: in the meeting app, Microphone = CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable), Speaker = your headphones. Never set the speaker to the cable. Pick devices by name; Teams has no “Same as system” option, so there you always pick by hand. Install the cable before you open the meeting app, and restart the browser.

- Speaker = CABLE Input → a phantom third voice; Voxis can't hear the call.
- Teams doesn't follow the Windows default.
- Afterwards, set the microphone back to your real one.
- Click the tabs to switch between Zoom, Teams and Meet.

✓ Check: Mic and speaker set

Basis
: The site's Zoom, Teams and Meet pages and the audio setup checklist.

Limit
: Zoom has “Same as system” and Meet a “Default -” entry; not measured, so picking by name is safest.

## Before the big call, test with a friend.

30-second test

Make a 30-second call with someone you know; the language pair doesn't matter. They should hear the translation, not your voice. If the translation is in your headphones but not on their side, the problem is the meeting app's microphone setting. Afterwards, set the meeting app's microphone back to your real one.

- The outgoing translation arrives a few seconds later; keep short answers to two words, like "Yes, alright".
- Listen to my translation: headphones only.

✓ Check: Did the test call

Basis
: Item 03 on the site's troubleshooting page; the app's end-of-meeting reminder.

Limit
: The outgoing voice isn't cloned; Meeting minutes count at the same rate as Video.

## The app tells you. Read the card, don't restart.

If nothing comes through

If nothing arrives, Voxis writes the reason into the stream. Talking into the microphone in Video mode: “No system audio yet”. Sound but no speech: “no speech has been detected”. Cable busy in Meeting: the “Voxis can't hear this call” card. Don't restart the session; read the card, fix it, then “I fixed it — check again”.

- A “Listen to this device” stream is invisible to System audio → use Input device.
- Antivirus or a VPN can cut the long-lived connection.
- Send the report right after the failed attempt.

✓ Check: I know the notices

Basis
: The app's own status lines.

Limit
: Each notice fires once per session, in the first silent minute.

## Installed. Now meet the app.

You're ready

Setup is done. The next page walks through every panel of the app, one at a time. Stuck? There's the troubleshooting page, and the Report a problem button in the app.

- The steps still open are listed in this drawer.
- Click a rod to jump back to that step.

Basis
: The check marks on this page.

Limit
: The marks live only in this browser; clearing browser data resets them.
