# Voxis facts

One page, one fact per line, nothing dressed up. If you are quoting VoxisLive in a review, a procurement form or an article, quote from here.

This page exists because facts about a product drift. A number gets repeated from an old screenshot, a limit gets rounded in someone's favour, and six months later nobody can tell which version was true. So every line below is a single, self-contained statement we are willing to be held to — including the lines that are not flattering.

**What this page is not:** it is not a feature pitch and it is not a specification of what we intend to build. It describes what the shipped product does today. Things we do not have are listed as plainly as things we do.

## Languages

- VoxisLive translates into 79 target languages.
- On a paid plan, all 79 of them are spoken — you hear a synthetic voice, not only text.
- On the free tier in the desktop app, 35 of the 79 are spoken; the remaining languages arrive as live captions instead of audio.
- A free-tier language that is not spoken is still translated — you read it rather than hear it. That is a coverage limit, not a failure.
- In the browser extension, the free voice is the browser's own speech engine, not ours: 18 languages in Chrome and 16 in Edge.
- Because the extension borrows the browser's voices, its free coverage differs from the desktop app's in both directions — a language spoken in one may be silent in the other.
- You choose the language you want to hear. The spoken language on the other end is detected automatically.

## Platforms

- Windows 10 version 2004 and above, including Windows 11, is supported.
- Linux is supported through the Snap Store: **sudo snap install voxis**.
- A browser extension is available for Chrome and for Edge.
- There is no macOS build.
- There is no iOS or Android app.
- There is no command-line or headless mode; the desktop app is a graphical application.

## Price and how minutes are counted

- There is no subscription.
- You buy prepaid minute packs.
- Purchased minutes do not expire while the account is active.
- Listed prices include VAT.
- Minutes are counted from the moment you press Start to the moment you press Stop.
- Silent stretches inside a running session are counted like any other minute — we do not pause the clock when nobody is talking.
- There is no multiplier: a minute of Meeting mode costs the same as a minute of Video mode, even though Meeting runs two translations at once.

The pack sizes and current prices are on the [pricing page](https://voxislive.com/pricing). The counting rule above is deliberately the simple one: what the wall clock says while a session is live.

## The free tier

- A new account gets 15 minutes on the Pro voice as a one-time taste of the paid experience.
- After that, the free tier gives 10 minutes every day.
- The daily 10 minutes reset once a day; unused free minutes do not accumulate.
- The free tier runs in Video and Game mode only.
- The free tier is bound to a device, so a second account on the same machine does not double it.
- No payment details are required to use the free tier.

## Meeting mode

- Meeting mode runs two independent translation sessions at the same time: what the other side says, translated for you, and what you say, translated for them.
- Nothing joins the call. No bot, no extra participant, no platform notification.
- The incoming direction needs no driver. The outgoing direction needs a virtual microphone, such as the free VB-CABLE, which you select as your microphone in the conferencing app.
- Without a virtual microphone, Meeting mode still runs — it degrades to listen-only.
- Meeting mode does not run on the free tier.
- Meeting minutes are counted one-to-one, despite the two concurrent sessions.

## Privacy

- Speech detection runs on your own machine before any audio leaves it.
- Audio is not stored after a session ends.
- Transcripts are written to your own device, not to our servers.
- You decide whether a transcript is kept at all, and you can delete a saved session from inside the app.
- With your own API key (BYOK), audio goes from your machine to the model provider you chose — it never reaches our servers.
- An excerpt of the real capture, detection and session code is published on GitHub so the claims above can be checked rather than believed.

## Compliance — what we do not have

This section is here because the honest answer is short and a vague answer would be worse.

- We hold no compliance certificate.
- We have no third-party audit or attestation report.
- We do not sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).
- We do not display compliance badges, because we have not earned any.
- If your procurement process requires a certificate or an attestation, VoxisLive does not currently meet that requirement, and no wording on this site should be read as claiming otherwise.

What we offer instead of a badge is inspectable behaviour: on-device speech detection, no audio retained after a session, transcripts written locally, and a published code excerpt covering that path. Whether that is enough is your call to make, not ours to assert.

## Latency

- Translated speech starts a few seconds after the original sentence is spoken.
- That span is measured from the moment a sentence is spoken on the source side to the moment the translated sentence starts playing in your ears.
- The delay exists because simultaneous interpretation needs to hear enough of a sentence to translate it — it is the same reason a human interpreter lags behind a speaker.
- The delay is a property of the interpretation itself and is not a setting you can turn down.
- Captions can appear before the voice has finished speaking the previous sentence; that is expected, not a fault.

We use one phrase for this everywhere on the site — **a few seconds** — and we do not publish a tighter number, because a single figure measured on one machine with one language pair would not survive contact with yours.

## Version numbers

- We do not print the current version number on this page, because a hard-coded number goes stale the day after a release.
- The version history, with what changed in each release, is on the changelog.
- The store listing you install from always shows the version it is currently serving.
- The app tells you what changed after it updates itself.

### How many languages can I actually hear, not just read?
