1. Before you start
- You need the BYOK unlock on your account — a one-time purchase, see Pricing. Sign in to the app or the extension with the account that bought it.
- Get a key from the provider: Gemini from Google AI Studio, or Qwen from Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (International edition).
- There is one key field. Voxis recognizes the provider by the key itself:
AIza…is Gemini,sk-…is Qwen. You can save both, side by side — Voxis then picks the best engine per target language (Qwen speaks about 29 targets with a natural voice; Gemini covers all 79).
2. Add a Gemini key
Create an API key in Google AI Studio, copy the AIza… value, paste it into the key field and save. No workspace row appears for Gemini — that is normal; Gemini does not need one.
3. Add a Qwen key — paste the whole file
Model Studio hands you the key as a small downloadable credentials file (a CSV). The one rule that makes everything work:
Do not paste the file's path, and do not paste just the key. Open the file, select all of its contents, copy, and paste everything into the key field.
Voxis reads both halves out of the paste in one go: the API key and the workspace. The workspace matters because a Qwen key belongs to a workspace, and — especially in the browser — the workspace is part of the connection address itself. Without it the key cannot connect at all.
- Pasting only the bare
sk-…key? Voxis will ask for the workspace by name. - Pasting the file path (like
C:\Users\…\key.csv)? You get a "paste an API key" warning — paste the file's contents instead. - Create the key in the International Model Studio. A key from the wrong region fails in a way that looks like an invalid key.
4. Start translating
In the extension: open the tab that plays the video, click the Voxis icon, and check the line under the Start button — it names the tab that will be translated ("Start translates this tab: …"). If it names the wrong tab, switch to the video's tab and open the popup there. Then press Start. In the Windows app: pick Video/Game or Meeting and start — the first translated words can take a few seconds.
If something doesn't work
- "Paste an API key" warning — you pasted a file path or plain text. Open the file and paste its contents.
- An error naming the workspace right after Start — the workspace is missing. Re-paste the whole credentials file.
- A fast, specific error about the key/workspace pairing — the two don't belong together, or the region is wrong. Re-download the credentials file and paste it again.
- Connected, but silent — make sure you pressed Start on the tab that plays the video, and that it is actually playing.
- A language refuses to start with only a Qwen key — that target has no Qwen voice. Add a Gemini key as well; Voxis will route it automatically.
