Prepaid Minutes vs. Subscription: How Voice Translation Pricing Actually Works

Voxis sells minutes, not a monthly seat — buy a pack once, minutes never expire, shared across desktop and browser extension, plus a free daily allowance on top.

Voxis sells minutes, not a monthly seat: buy a pack once, and those minutes sit on the account until spent — no recurring charge, no expiration date. On top of that, every account also gets a free allowance with no purchase required: 15 premium minutes once, then 10 free minutes every day, forever, on the Windows desktop app.

What "prepaid minutes" means in practice

A minute pack is a one-time purchase; the balance is drawn down only while a session is actively translating, and it's shared across the desktop app and the browser extension — buying minutes once covers both.

Pack Minutes Price Per minute
Starter 80 $6.99 ~$0.087
Standard 300 $21.99 ~$0.073
Pro 900 $59.99 ~$0.066
Ultimate 2,600 $149.99 ~$0.057

Larger packs cost less per minute, but there's no obligation to pick a bigger one than you'll actually use — an unused prepaid balance doesn't expire or reset, unlike a subscription's monthly allotment.

How that differs from a subscription model

A subscription charges a recurring amount — typically monthly — for a fixed usage allotment that resets each period whether it was used or not. Leftover minutes from a light month don't carry forward, and a heavy month either hits a hard cap or triggers an overage charge. Prepaid minutes remove both of those mechanics: there's no billing date to track, no allotment resetting under you, and no charge at all until you choose to buy more.

The free tier in plain terms

Every account starts with 15 minutes of the full premium voice engine — a one-time allowance to try the real thing. After that's used, the account still gets 10 free minutes every day, indefinitely, using a lighter local-voice engine instead of the premium one. That daily allowance is video/game-mode only, not available in Meeting mode — a synthetic voice speaking on someone's behalf in a live two-way conversation is a different situation from translating something you're privately watching, and it's treated differently for that reason.

What exactly a "minute" meters

Minutes accrue only while a session is actively translating — not while the app is simply open — and the running balance is shared between however many devices or install types (desktop, browser extension) are signed into the same account. There's no separate quota per device to track.

FAQ

Do prepaid minutes expire? No — a purchased balance sits on the account until it's used, with no time limit.

Can the daily free minutes be used in Meeting mode? No — the daily free allowance is video/game mode only. Meeting mode requires either the free tier's one-time 15-minute allowance or a paid balance.

What happens if a session runs out of minutes partway through? The session ends gracefully rather than cutting off mid-word, and the app prompts to top up if more minutes are needed.
